- Meet Kayla
When the Oakwood Veterinary Clinic opened its doors in March of 2011 there was a newly hired receptionist named Kayla sitting at the desk welcoming our new clients and their pets. She was an integral part of our practice then, and instrumental in establishing its success. Seven years later, she has become one of our most experienced front desk staff.
If you call the office to schedule an appointment for a check-up, surgery or special procedure, or simply to ask a question, Kayla is on the line to help you with whatever you need.
If you are checking in for your appointment or stopping at the desk on your way out, she is always ready with a smile.
She works with the doctors and the rest of our support staff filling prescriptions, assisting with “run in back” appointments, and relaying client messages. Because of her years of experience, she uses the knowledge she has gained to educate our clients in many areas including flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, and vaccine protocols.
To support our staff, Kayla is responsible for maintaining our “positivity center”, a message board where she posts motivational sayings, thank you cards and pet photos from our clients and great reviews posted on Facebook.
Outside of the office Kayla enjoys spending time with her dog Tazer and cats Selia and Zander. In the summer she enjoys camping and enjoying nature. She spends time at her grandparent’s camp in the Adirondacks. She also loves to read, and she is an avid Star Wars Fan!
- Meet Tom – Veterinary Assistant
At the Boght and Oakwood Veterinary Clinics, we have had the pleasure of working with Tom Fuller since 2016. He is employed as a full-time veterinary assistant. As the job title implies, he works closely with our doctors. During daily appointments he obtains a brief history, answers any general questions from our clients related to their pet’s care, and relays any concerns to the doctors. He works with the doctors and technicians in the treatment area and is responsible for many aspects of animal care including monitoring surgical cases and hospitalized patients. He also helps to complete lab work in our in-house lab.
Tom is always willing to lend a hand wherever he is needed and will do the dirtiest job with a smile. He is eager and excited to learn new skills related to his job. He is currently working with Dr. Brandilyn Wagoner, and our Digital Communications Director Michelle, on a project related to our clinic adoptions. This gives him the opportunity to use his graphic design talents. He has also used his graphic design background to design the company’s maintenance van.
Outside of the office, Tom spends time with his cat Nala, a cat he adopted from the clinic. He enjoys outdoor activities like longboarding and climbing.
- Meet Michelle – Our Digital Communications Manager
As the oldest daughter of Dr. David Wagoner, Michelle has a long history with the Boght Veterinary Clinic. She remembers spending summers in the house at the back of the office, babysitting her sisters while her dad was working. She started working for the clinic officially in 2002 as a receptionist and remembers going through building renovations and computer system upgrades.
After high school, Michelle went on to college and a career in the field of education. While teaching she became interested in Digital Communication through blogging and sharing teaching ideas on the internet. Now, after 14 years, she is back in the area and once again working for the Boght and Oakwood Veterinary Clinics.
Michelle’s goal in her new position is to connect with clients and their pets in a fun and personal way. She plans to do this through regular postings on our Facebook pages (Boght Facebook and Oakwood Facebook) and blog posts and updates here on our website. Her hope is to have other staff members connect through these platforms as well.
The best part of Michelle’s job is being able to spend time with her family and be part a business that she is proud of. The Boght Veterinary Clinic, and later the Oakwood Veterinary Clinic, has always supported Michelle in her endeavors and she is looking forward to returning the favor.
When she is not in the office, she is most likely spending time with her husband and son. They enjoy going to sporting events, watching movies, and traveling. They have two dogs – Salvatore “Putz” and Willow “Aggressive Snuggler”.
- Meet Human Resource Manager, Charles!
Charles joined the Boght and Oakwood Clinic team in January of this year as our Human Resource Manager. This management position was created because, as the clinic has grown, so has the size of our staff. In his position, Charles supervises up to 40 support staff! He is involved with job posting and interviewing candidates. He schedules on-site visits and connects with potential employees. After the hiring process is complete, he creates training schedules for new hires and works closely with the trainers and the new employees to ensure successful on-boarding.
His main focus since starting in his position is creating job descriptions for the various positions in the hospital and revising our performance reviews based on these specific job descriptions. This allows each employee to know what their position specifically entails, and how their performance is measured in these specific areas. This has been great for staff moral and allowed all us to focus on being the best we can be for our staff and our clients and their pets.
Charles is a great listener. As can be expected with such a large staff, there are times when he must mediate disputes, sooth ruffled feathers, or just be a sounding board when an employee needs to vent. He has worked hard to earn the respect of our doctors and staff alike.
As part of the management staff, he helps keep the clinics running smoothly. Checking cashier deposit bags, correcting mistakes and updating records as necessary, are all handled with speed and efficiently. Charles is never afraid to ask a question and is always eager to learn and improve his management skills.
Outside of work, Charles likes to spend time with friends. Since he grew up in the area, he is still able to spend time with many of his friends from high school. He is known as a bit of a travel agent, organizing excursions to the Adirondacks, Vermont, and even Colorado. He and his girlfriend, Lucy, like spending time with their dogs, Slider and Rookie, and hiking in different national parks.
